Destination: Vashisht
Vashisht is a village located 3 km from Manali across the River Beas. This village is famous for its sulphurous hot water springs and sanctified by three main temples dedicated to Lord Vashisht, Lord Shiva and Lord Rama built just next to the springs.
Lord Vishnu sent his brother Lakshman, who was also the brother of Lord Rama, to help Sage Vashisht. Lakshman shot an arrow into the ground, and a hot water spring emerged from the spot. The spring was named Vashisht Kund, and it became a source of joy and comfort for Sage Vashisht and his wife.
Sage Vashist, one of the Seven Great Rishis, and guru of Lord Rama’s Ikshvaku dynasty is believed to have meditated here. The village is named after him. There is a wooden temple, near the hot water spring, that is dedicated to him. The spring is very popular and always crowded.
The Vashisht temple which exists even today is believed to be more than 4000 years.
