Destination: SARAHAN
Sarahan is a small town in Himachal Pradesh of India. It is the site of the Bhimakali Temple, originally known as Bhimadevi Temple, dedicated to the mother goddess Bhimakali, presiding deity of the rulers of the former Bushahr State.
Sarahan is a place which gives you a stunning view of the Pin Parvati valley. The valley is right opposite the village. Enjoy moments of some great view at sunset time. The valley looks golden at that time.
According to one legend, during Daksha Yagna, the Ear of Sati Devi fell here when Lord Vishnu cut the pieces of her body carried by heartbroken Lord Shiva. Other legend states that this area was under the rule of a Demon called Banasura, the great-grandson of king Prahlad an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu.
Sarahan was founded by Banasur, a demon king who was a devotee of Lord Shiva. The town was originally called Shonitpur, but it was renamed Sarahan after Banasur’s defeat by Krishna.
Bhimakali temple, built in Kath-Kuni style of architecture. It is a traditional technique that uses alternating layers of wood and stone masonry, held in place without using mortar.
